Calibration Turnaround Times. What to Expect and How to Plan Around Them
20 January 2026
Got questions about calibration turnaround times?
We’ve got answers.
Our latest article covers everything you need to know to plan, schedule, and manage your calibration work efficiently, helping you minimise downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
How long does calibration take?
Calibration turnaround times can vary depending on the type of instrument, the level of calibration required and whether any issues are identified during testing. That said, we always aim to complete calibration as efficiently as possible while maintaining accuracy and traceability.
Typical turnaround times
For standard instruments and routine calibration, turnaround is typically 5 to 10 working days from receipt. This includes inspection, calibration, certification and return preparation.
More complex instruments, multi parameter devices or specialist calibrations may take slightly longer, particularly where extended testing or environmental stabilisation is required.
What can affect calibration time?
Several factors can influence how long calibration takes, including:
- Instrument type and complexity
- Calibration scope and accuracy requirements
- Number of measurement points
- As found and as left reporting requirements
- Whether the instrument is found to be out of tolerance
- Availability of reference standards or specialist equipment
If an instrument requires adjustment, repair or parts replacement, we will always contact you before proceeding, as this may extend the turnaround time.
Expedited calibration
Where downtime is critical, we can often offer priority or expedited calibration services. These are subject to availability and should be discussed in advance so expectations can be clearly agreed.
What happens during calibration?
Our calibration process typically includes:
- Initial inspection and functional checks
- As found measurement and comparison against traceable standards
- Adjustment where required
- As left verification
- Issue of calibration certification
- Final inspection and preparation for return
Every calibration is carried out in line with agreed procedures and relevant standards to ensure confidence in the results.
Need a specific timescale?
If you are working to a tight schedule or have multiple instruments requiring calibration, our team is happy to advise on expected turnaround times before booking. That way, there are no surprises and you can plan with confidence.
