Fruit syrup production process is sweeter thanks for smart valve control

Background

The project scope set by Teisseire, the leading French producer of fruit syrups and soft drinks, was to introduce a new fluid control system which would accommodate third party control valves but also provide fieldbus communications. The key objective also set out was to improve the management of the production line and reduce the stock levels held for maintenance.

Challenge

Teisseire invested heavily in process engineering to optimise processes, with Bürkert contributing one of the latest innovations to improve process integration and performance. Teisserire’s current solution was not as efficient as was needed for this particular process and so a new and innovative decentralised control valve seemed to offer a resolution.

Solution

Bürkert’s Type 8681 control head has become the key element that completely changes the way process valves are operated and controlled in the factory. There is now no need for compressed air lines to the control cabinets but with intelligent fieldbus technology that increases both the reliability and efficiency of the production line. Other key advantages of this technology conclude: control head for decentralised automation of hygienic process valves; the contactless position measurement system with three switching points (Teach-In function); coloured status display; manual override operative with closed housing; AS-Interface, DeviceNet, IO-Link and büS/CANopen.

Result

Compared to the old system at Teisseire, the new decentralised system offers a number of advantages. Mounting the actuators directly on the control valves reduces both the length and the total number of connections. Planning, installation and maintenance are also significantly simplified. The significantly shorter lines minimise switching times and compressed air consumption. This has a positive effect on operational reliability.
