The typical lifetime of these tube skin thermocouples at continuous operation lies between 4 to 6 years. Sheath material for gas-fired furnaces is made from SS310, Inconel 600, or Hastelloy X. For oil fuel-fired furnaces best results are achieved with a sheath material Hastelloy X or Haynes HR160. An additional braided sleeve of Refrex / Fibrefrax protects the sheath from aging acceleration and prolongs the sensor lifetime.
